THE FATHER’S DISCIPLINE
David Abankwah
READ: Leviticus 26:14-43

For those whom the Lord loves he disciplines, and he scourges every son whom he receives.”

-Hebrews 12:6 | NASB

It is high time we knew the God we serve very well. Many know God to be merciful. Others know Him as a kind God. Others know Him to be a God who loves. Others know Him to be a God who saves. But when it comes to discipline and justice, many Christians don’t seem to get it that, God who is love, merciful, nice, good and the rest also punishes us for our sins and iniquities. I know you will not bear with me but there are countless examples from Genesis to Revelation. Sit down and search about God in the Bible. If He is only the God of love and mercy, God of salvation and peace, then probably you don’t know the God you serve.

Before Moses and the Israelites left Egypt, they saw God in His state of love, mercy, salvation and grace but they were asleep when God disciplined the Egyptians in the night by sending an angel of death to kill their firstborn sons. Moses becoming aware of this, knew that, there was more to God than He already knew. So one day, He asked God to show him His glory. He knew God in part but he wanted to know Him fully. God said, no problem, you will know me more. I will make my goodness pass before you and I will proclaim to you who I am (Exodus 33:19). Let us be attentive and read God in totality in the following verses.

Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; YET HE WILL BY NO MEANS LEAVE THE GUILTY UNPUNISHED, VISITING THE INIQUITY OF FATHERS ON THE CHILDREN AND ON THE GRANDCHILDREN TO THE THIRD AND FOURTH GENERATIONS.”
-Exodus 34:6‭-‬7 NASB. So you see, God is not only a God of love, mercy, grace as we all know and have been taught.

I am not scaring you concerning who God is. God has told us lucidly who He is with His own mouth. He also says in Deuteronomy 32:39 about who He is also. See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I KILL, and I MAKE ALIVE; I WOUND, and I HEAL: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. -Deuteronomy 32:39 | KJV. Everything you sow, God will make you reap it here on earth and beyond. That is His justice and disciplinary actions. Sow seeds of sin and iniquities, and God will surely punish you for that. Sow seeds of righteousness and holiness and He will surely reward you.

Stay Blessed
