BEHOLD

David Abankwah

READ: Matthew 24:30-31

And, BEHOLD, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
-Revelation 22:12 | KJV

Behold is to perceive through sight or apprehension or to gaze upon someone or something. How will you feel if an uncle of yours who had promised to take you abroad into a country you have always dreamt of, comes home one day and fulfill the promise? I quite remember when I was a child, anytime I had to travel the next morning into another town or city, I can’t sleep that night. As I lie down, I begin to behold the beauty of the place in my mind and for this reason, makes me prepare myself beforehand.

I don’t want to miss my flight at all because of any flimsy excuse of unpreparedness. What fuels up the joy that sets my heart ablaze, is when my friends confirm that, they had been to where I am going before and that place looked nice and enjoying. So in that case, I prepare my mind and heart as if I am there already and wow betides the one who is taking me there if he cancels the flight. When I became a Christian at a tender age, I became aware of a place that was more beautiful, great, glorious and amazing than all the towns and cities I had been to.

But there was one thing about this city that I didn’t know about. This city called New Jerusalem was not a city one can gaze upon with one’s physical eyes. It can’t be perceived through physical sight or apprehension. It can only be beheld by those who are rewarded with it. You can’t be rewarded too if your faith is not in the One who is coming to take you there. Also your works should be up to the standard set. Do you know that when Jesus Christ was with the disciples, their eyes were beholding the things of the towns and cities they went to.

So anytime Jesus talked to them about spiritual things or things beyond the physical, they couldn’t get it as much as they could. One thing about Christianity is that, if your mind and heart is set on beholding the things of the world, you can’t behold the things of the Spirit. Don’t mind and work for things in this world which you can’t take it along after your death. Work for your salvation and the salvation of others and let your eyes, mind and heart be gazed on every good deed. Brother, if you gaze upon the rumps of a lady, you will fall into a ditch one day.

Stay Blessed
