CONSTRAINT
David Abankwah
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
-2 Corinthians 5:14 | KJV
Love as an attitude, habit, action, sacrifice and not a feeling, develops a character of constraint. If you love someone, you are restricted as to the things you need to do for the person and things you have to refrain from. You are not under any control of ‘self’ but ‘others’. The interest of the other party becomes yours. The likes and dislikes of the person becomes yours to take note of. There is no free will in love. You can’t do what you want to do anymore. Your previous behaviours and actions are put to check to align with the demands of the other person, making you disciplined.
Marriage is related to Christianity in a way because it is Jesus Christ who marries the church (Ephesians 5:25). When Jesus Christ was about the marry the church, it was in a deep mess. The wife of Christ was soaked in sin and iniquities. The church had many boyfriends that Jesus Christ had to deal with. These rivals were Satan and his fallen angels who influenced His church to sin. The fierce rival to Christ was the mammon (Matthew 6:24). Yet, because he loved the church, He underwent the period of constraint for us.
He had to limit or restrain Himself from the glory of Godship in order to take the form of a servant. This is because humans cannot withstand the form of God. That was why Saul fell down and became blind when Jesus Christ met him on the road of Damascus with the Godly form He had in heaven. Because of love, He had to do away with things that would not make people realise He was a God. He walked on the face of the earth and did everything as a man in order to save His church. He took the church to Calvary, washed her with His blood and made her holy.
Now as we have been bought by the blood as the dowry from Satan, to enjoy eternal marriage ceremony in heaven, we are under constraint here on earth. We have been given the laws of Jesus Christ to obey. So when you hear some Christians say, ‘Christianity is in the heart’ and they do whatever they want to, I pity them. We are under the authority of Jesus Christ who is our Head. We have no free will anymore. His will becomes our will. His actions become ours. His thoughts become ours. His likes and dislikes are ours to behold. We are restricted to love Him only.
Stay Blessed
