LIKE A CHILD

David Abankwah

READ: Luke 18:16

And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.

-Matthew 18:3 | KJV

After your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, one of the works of faith is that, you have to be converted into a child. It is not anyone who will do the conversion for you. It is a deliberate willingness of metamorphosis that one has to work on himself. When a child wants to grow to become an adult, the child has to indulge in the habits of growth by feeding on the right diet. Likewise, when an adult wants to become a child in the world of Christianity, the person has to engage in activities that limits his flesh.

It is more of the Spirit that makes one become a child. As the flesh needs to be fed with the right diet, the soul of man also needs to be fed with the Word of God. It is the Word of God and His obedience, that leads to this spiritual conversion. The flesh is noted for acts of adulthood, thus pride and rebellion, but if one needs to be as a child, one needs to look beyond the carnal and concentrate on the spiritual. It is the life of Jesus Christ that we have to study and emulate because, He is the Perfect Example of someone who lived like a child.

Features of a child include humility, obedience, not holding grudges against someone who has offended him, having faith in his parent that whatever he asks, he will be provided with. A child doesn’t become bitter no matter what the condition is. As a God, Jesus Christ had to humble Himself from the status of a ‘God’ into the status of ‘man’. As a righteous person, He had to mingle with the unrighteous in order to save them. When He was faced with the impossible, His belief in God as His Father, led Him into diverse breakthroughs.

No matter the harsh conditions he went through before his death on the cross, He was never offended or bitter. This is the life Paul studied and imitated (1 Corinthians 11:1). A Lawyer by profession and Pharisee, he had to lay aside his certificates that made him an ‘adult’ that made him persecute Christians. In the midst of all crisis, Paul was still humble in the ministry of Gentiles. He no longer exhibited the life of adulthood because, he deliberately imitated the life of Jesus Christ. Imitate the life of Jesus Christ and you will become a child worthy of eternal life.

Stay Blessed
