CONTINUE IN PRAYER, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
-Colossians 4:2 | KJV
Jesus Christ gave a parable of a certain widow who lived. This woman was quite poor in the city she was living because, the breadwinner, her husband had died. There came a time when this widow had a case with her enemy and her enemy took her to court because her adversary was financially inclined. You see, rich people not losing case in court because they can close the mouth and tie the hands of judges even if you are innocent, started long ago. So fair judgement cannot be executed to condemn rich people into prison when they are guilty. But in the judgement of God, you can’t bribe Him.
Because the poor woman couldn’t afford a lawyer, it seemed that all hope was lost until she heard the judge who would sit on the matter was also from the city she was living in. She then thought it wise to go in a Nicodemus manner to try her luck. Little did she know that, this Judge was a very difficult man. He never feared God or favoured men. As a just person, he didn’t give a damn about the amount of cry or show you put up to invoke his mercy upon you, neither is he moved by swift talks. Sometimes, I hear people complain that, just people are difficult and straight people to deal with.
The poor woman went there and presented her case before the judge but he told her, the decision had been finalised. He won’t do anything about it so she should leave. Another day this same woman went there and said the same thing and the judge gave her the same answer. She went there again and again and again until one day, the judge sat down in his chair and began to reason about this persistent woman who wouldn’t let him have a peace of mind. The judge said within himself, ‘Though I fear not God, nor regard man, yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’
So this judge became the lawyer of the widow in the making and passed a judgement to deliver her from the hands of her adversary. That is what it is in Christianity. The judge is God, the widow is a Christian and the adversary is Satan. We are poor in spirit because our soul seeks the Spirit of God relentlessly. Now, the petition of the widow is prayer. God answers persistent prayers because He wants to see your seriousness. Don’t pray one or two and say you are tired. Prayer is a daily habit. You have to pray always. Don’t pray because you want something from God, pray because it is part of the faith. Amen.
Stay Blessed
