ELEMENTAL HOPE
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day One
REJOICING IN HOPE; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
-Romans 12:12 | KJV
Element is an essential and basic part of something. Without it, the bulky substance would not be whole. Christianity as a bulky foundation laid by Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of faith, has three major elements or virtues: hope, faith and love. Though love is the greatest of them all, but without faith and hope, the foundation is not complete. If you love only and you don’t have faith, you will doubt God and the things that concerns Him which will gradually weaken the acts of love. If you lack hope, you will not have any reliance on New Jerusalem where you are going.
It is faith that builds hope and it is hope that builds love. You can’t love without hoping and you can’t hope when there is no faith. I was once confronted by a Christian sister who complained bitterly about her broken relationship with a guy. She had lost the love she once had for this guy and there was no amount of words that could reverse the gear of hurt. For her, the guy had changed completely from what she used to know him and there is no way he could change. First, she had lost her love because there is no hope of the guy turning a new leaf and this had made her lose faith in him too.
Hope as an element of Christianity, has so many benefits. Hope builds steadfast mind and this steadfast mind, breeds loyalty (Ruth 1:18). Hope strengthens the covenant you have with God (Ezra 10:2-3). Hope eludes fear (Job 4:6). Hope builds the assurance of abundance (Job 5:16). Hope lengthens one’s life and gives strength for the weak (Job 6:12). Hope makes one secure in all things (Job 11:18). Hope brings fruitfulness for the barren and the assurance for the doubting (Job 14:7). Hope brings rest for agitative humans (Psalm 16:9). Hope is one of God’s handiwork for us (Psalm 22:9).
Hope breeds good courage in the Lord (Psalm 31:24). The eye of the Lord is upon those who have hope in His mercy (Psalm 33:18). Hope pulls God’s mercy towards those who are victims of indignation (Psalm 33:22). Hope builds the assurance that God will answer one’s prayers (Psalm 38:15). Hope is the missing piece of the jigsaw, that breaks one forth from detention or things that hold people back from achieving their purpose. Hope elevates the energy of the soul that is cast down and brings praise of God for the quiet (Psalm 42:5).
