DEBT OF LOVE
David Abankwah
READ: Galatians 5:14
Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
-Romans 13:8 | KJV
To be in debt is something no one wants to find him or herself in. Sometimes the outcome of owing someone something you borrowed, can be a very nasty one. But because of lack or need, you have no option than to lend. There was a certain city called Cash Capital. This city was named after a renowned rich man called Mr. Generous who was a kind man. This man had compassion towards those who came to ask of him things they lacked. Others too came to him to lend money and pay at a stipulated time frame. There was a certain poor man called Mr. Hateful who also lived in that same city.
He came to ask of loan from this rich man and promised him be would pay later on. The rich man agreed to the proposal of the poor man, gave him ample time to pay back, and then gave him the money he wanted. Time passed and this poor man was not paying up, yet Mr. Generous was not mad at him. The stipulated time frame for paying up passed, yet Mr. Generous was not saying anything to Mr. Hateful. He patiently waited for the money to be paid because he had a large heart to understand how the state of poverty could be. Yet, Mr. Hateful was taking His generosity for granted. One day, Mr. Generous sent to call Mr. Hateful.
He asked him why he hasn’t been able to pay up the money he came to borrow. Mr. Hateful gave so many reasons why he couldn’t. Mr. Generous looked at him and said, do you know that I can take you to prison for you to pay up my money? Mr. Hateful said yes I know. But with a look of compassion, Mr. Generous said, you can go, but make sure you do well to pay my money in no time. Time passed and Mr. Hateful also had someone who also owed his wife for quite a long time. Mr. Hateful called the police to arrest this man because he had deliberately decided not to pay his wife’s money. Mr. Generous hearing what Mr. Hateful had done, summoned him.
He asked him why he did that and he explained that it was a deliberate approach by his debtor not to pay back his wife’s money. Mr. Generous said you could have had compassion towards this fellow but because you lack love, I am also sending you to prison until you pay up my money in full. What do we learn from this story? Mr. Generous is God, we are Mr. Hateful and the other man is our neighbour. The love of God by giving us His son is a debt we have to pay. But instead of loving others, we choose to exhibit all manner of cruelty against our neighbours. The outcome of hate is the prison of lake of fire.
Stay Blessed
