STRENGTH OF GOD
David Abankwah
READ: Micah 5:4

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.
-Ephesians 6:10 | ESV

Strength is the key to sustainable existence. When I was in senior high school, I first heard the term ‘Survival of the fittest’ in one of our science classes. As the tutor went on to explain, he said that, there is always a time in the animal kingdom when food become scarce. Every animal tries as much as possible to live in these harsh conditions. The weak ones do well to hide themselves from the reach of the stronger ones because they know they would be eaten by them. In this period, there is no rulership of lion as the king of the jungle or whether the elephant is the commander in battle.

What is needed is for you to survive. But it will surprise you that, if the weaker ones are bold enough to prey on the stronger ones, they live, whiles others who feared and hid themselves thinking they are prey for others, die because of lack of food. Strength is not by height or muscles, but in boldness. I once remember I used to face those who I knew I couldn’t beat in school. I was always at their mercy because they were always bold enough to call the first shots. On the battlefield, survival is the key and it takes strength to do that.

There is a certain strength I want to talk about today. This strength is not used for molesting people. It is not used to beat people up. It is not used to give you a feel-good factor, making you a top notch physical survivor. This strength comes from God. This strength is His Spirit. In one of the seven Spirits of God, there is one Spirit called the Spirit of might (Isaiah 11:2). What makes God mighty, unable to be defeated from eternity to eternity is this Spirit of might. It is this strength that He deposited some into his angels. There is no enemy that can stand before God to bring him down.

Satan tried but his fellow angels threw him down, how much more would have happened if God Himself stepped in? When Jesus came on the scene, Satan taught He was weak because of the fasting He was doing, not knowing the Spirit of Might was in Him. Physically He was weak, but spiritually He was so strong. He was defeated again by the Son of God. It is the strength of God we need to help us in the race of eternal life. Without Him, we will become weary in doing good and living right. Without Him, we will no longer believe in Jesus Christ anymore. Without Him, we will perish.
