SELF-WILL
David Abankwah
READ: Matthew 6:10
But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
-Matthew 18:6 | KJV
Offence or sin is simply self-will but righteousness and holiness is God’s will. Self-will is the choice to do things that goes contrary to what God wants or likes. Self-will was first brought into existence by Satan who was then Lucifer in heaven. The will of God was that, all angels need to worship and be under submission unto the Most High, yet, he saw that, this will is old-fashioned. He thought of create a new party that would bring a revolution of freedom, right and democracy instead of God’s existing government of autocracy, rule of the Word and separation of powers.
Because of self-will, Satan sought after independence from God by using military state of governance: Coup d’etat. He won 1/3 of the citizens of heaven to his side, to wage war against the incumbent. Because of the will of God that other citizens were loyal to, they stood against the plan of Satan and because of that, war broke out in heaven -Revelation 12:7. Satan and his angels were defeated and thrown down to the earth, with some been held by chains in darkness, reserved for judgement (this is because, this type of angels are so terrifying and dangerous that, men can’t live with them) -Jude 1:6
God gave His word to Adam which contained His Will, not to touch the tree of the forbidden tree or eat from its fruits. When Satan came to Eve, he deceived her to discard the will of God. By eating the fruit which God hasn’t told them to, they fulfilled their self-will of disobedience that led to their fall. There is always an adverse consequence, when you want to live outside the parameters of the will of God. Satan reaped the outcome of banishment from heaven. Man also reaped an outcome of banishment from Eden. Lake of fire will also be there for the banishment of people who live in their self-will.
This is why Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:6 that, woe betides anyone who lives in self-will or offence against someone whose motive is to live in the will of God (little ones). Learn to live in the will of God by carefully following every word God has said in the Bible. Don’t think the words of the Bible are old-fashioned, never underestimate it, because its words are what will be used to judge you one day. Today, believers have their own Bibles different from what God has. When God says this in the Bible, they also live contrary to what God have said. To do things using your self-will, is to sin against God.
