WONDERS OF OLD
David Abankwah
READ: Deuteronomy 4:34

I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
-Psalms 77:11‭-‬12 | KJV

Human beings by nature are marked by forgetfulness. We easily forget what people have done for us. Most at times, we exhibit ingratitude towards those who have gone all odds to help us to become who we are today. No wonder people use different mothers and fathers as their real parents to be seated under ceremonial meetings especially weddings not because their real parents are dead, but because they are ashamed to show off the hunchbacks of their real parents. They are ashamed to show off the wrinkle lines on the faces of their real parents. Their real parents would be there which they don’t respect, but you see them honouring their Pastor’s wives.

In reality, they had never washed the clothes of their real parents before neither have they done any good thing for their real parents. Some believers are even at loggerheads with their parents but they flow well with the Lord’s anointed. What hypocrisy is this? No matter who you are, when you get into the home of your parents, you are still a son or daughter. No matter the academic ladder you have reached or the status you have, you are not greater than your parents. If they had decided to abort you, you wouldn’t have become who you are today. This is the reason why God requires from us to honour our mothers and fathers.

This is because, true honour comes from remembrance. The reason why you can’t honour people is just because, you easily forget what they have done for you and it is a sin to do that. Doing good doesn’t come easy at all and it is through people that God uses as vessels of blessings. It is this same habit of forgetfulness we exhibit before God just because, we were first forgetful about people. David was not like that. He made sure he always remember the Lord because, he was fully aware of who he was before he could become a King. When he was nobody, it was God who took Him, anointed and helped him to become somebody important.

It takes the wonder of God to overturn the tables for you and when you are successful, don’t forget God. From the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation, it entails the wonders of God. They are references and examples for us to appreciate. Sometimes, we want to see the wonders of old before we can know what God is capable of doing in our lives. Yet, God always do wonders of new things in our lives but we fail to see. To sleep is a wonder. To wake up is another wonder. Because sleeping is a wonder, no one can tell the time he slept and the time he will wake up. It is God who wakes us up not our alarms.
