LOVE IS DIVERSE
David Abankwah
SERIES: Day 7
…..seeketh not her own…..
-1 Corinthians 13:5 | KJV
I hardly had friends who could look me in the eye and face me squarely until I met two friends in senior high school whom I thought were difficult to deal with. You see, the more ego rises, the more truth becomes bitter. I thought they didn’t like me just because, they always rebuked me when I was wrong. One of them set me aside one day and told me: ‘David you know something? Studying you for a while, I can see you are a very selfish person. Look at your other friend. He is not like you. He is not self-centered. His mind is about others but as for you, you are always thinking about yourself.’
I always remember this rebuke which happened under a tree just some walks away from the administration block. At first, I didn’t like what he was saying but I had no option than to listen. I knew within me that what he was saying was so true. If I had the mind to think about others, it was only 10%. It was like, I gave a tithe of my care to others and I took the 90% for myself. I had difficulty in loving people the way I was supposed to because of selfishness and I believe many of us still have a problem with that even though we are believers now. Faith is a theory, but works are the practicals.
I know you want to save and buy a land. I know you have to gather funds to continue your schooling. I know you have to work hard to build a house. I know you want this or that, but for the sake of your salvation, think about others too. You didn’t get to where you are by accident. You had parents, guardians, helpers, friends and others who helped you with the little they had to push you to where you are today. Don’t be selfish. Remember them and assist them with the help you can. Even if they don’t need your help, offer what you have, out of gratefulness. Nobody WANTS something but everyone NEEDS something.
Everyone needs salvation. If you have love, you will take it upon yourself to be an instrument of salvation for others (Matthew 28:19-20). You can take it upon yourself to help the poor, orphans, talented students who need help with finances, the physically challenged and the rest. Don’t only think about your children and leave other children who are on the streets. You have money but when you pass by beggars, you don’t give anything but you still blame God for not providing you with customers nowadays. It is because you are selfish that is why. Think about others and you will succeed.
