DIVINE RECEPTIVITY
David Abankwah
READ: Habakkuk 1:13
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
-1 Peter 3:12 | KJV
Have you reached a point in your life, where you felt your efforts were unattended to? Have you ever had disappointment in someone whom you almost lost your life for, just to realise at the end of it all that, he or she was unfazed by your efforts of help? Have you ever seeked the attention of the people you love, yet, you seemed to have been their shadows? Have you ever reached a point in your life where you felt like God is not with you anymore because of the serial situations you find yourself battling against? Then, today’s devotional is rightfully so, for you.
One thing you need to realise about is that, living in righteousness and holiness has its benefits in Christianity. One of the key importance of righteousness is that, it pulls God’s attention to you. Let me give you a little scenario. When you see a certain guy or lady stealing glances at you, it means there is a certain attraction or chemistry going on. There is something about you that the person likes and because of this feature on you, it is able to stimulate the visual sense of that person making him or her develop that receptivity towards you. There is always a reason why things happen.
For you to catch God’s attention, you need to know what interests God. You need to know what God dislikes too. The reason why we have wrong relationships left right centre is that, we don’t know what people want and what they hate. So we end up at the losing extremities. There is only one thing that catches God’s attention. That is righteousness. Righteousness is not only about abstaining from sin, but to do everything that God has commanded in His Word and to allow His will to be done in your life always. There are some people who think when they don’t fornicate, steal, lie and all that, they are righteous.
They don’t know that, when they don’t pray a day, they have sinned (1 Samuel 12:23; 1 Thessalonians 5:17). When they don’t fast, they don’t know they have sinned (Matthew 6:16). When they don’t preach and teach the Gospel, they don’t know they have sinned (Matthew 28:19-20). Today certain believers have their Pastors as their Bibles. Instead of them searching the Scriptures to know what God likes and dislikes, you see them telling you ‘My Pastor says that, my Pastor says this’. God’s eyes and ears are only for those who do what He likes and shuns what He hates.
