DIVINE SUSTENANCE

David Abankwah

READ: Matthew 11:28

Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

-Psalms 55:22 | KJV

There is only one burden of men: that is the burden of sin. From the time that man fell in the Garden of Eden, he was constantly burdened with sin and how he would be rested from it. As long as he continued finding solution to this problem, the more heavier this burden increased as men became more and more wickedness-inclined (Genesis 6:5). As time passed, sin became more and more heavier which was constantly piling up from the earth to the doorsteps of heaven. Sin piles up anytime one continues to do it and its required penalty is meted out.

God had to deal with the burden of sin by death. He vanquished all the burden of sin by flooding evil men from the face of the earth with flood for 40 days and 40 nights and took 150 days to recede from the earth. It seemed as though the burden of sin was dealt with, but as men continued to increase, the burden of sin continued to linger. The burden of sin piled up once more to the doorsteps of heaven from two towns called Sodom and Gomorrah. God had to visit the earth and confirm this when He came in the form of three men.

He dealt with the burden of these piled up sins and iniquities by raining burning sulphur from heaven (Genesis 19:24). It looked as if the burden of sin was dealt with, yet as men continued to increase the burden of sin still lingered. Blood of animals were used as a temporal approach to deal with the burden of sin in order to cover them from the face of God. Yet, God was not pleased with the sacrifices of blood animals. In order for God to sustain the burden of the sins of men once and for all, He sat down and orchestrated a plan to send His Son in.

So in this case, He needed a progenitor to line the lineage of His Son through so that He could be a Son of man not a Son of God. In this case, He called Abraham to sacrifice his one and only promised son called Isaac. When Abraham obeyed, God saw that if man was able to sacrifice his son then He would be a template of faith on which His Son Jesus Christ could thrive. God then sustained the burden of sin once and for all through the blood of His Son Jesus Christ which is able to remove the burden of sin completely.
