CONFESSION
David Abankwah
READ: James 5:16
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
-1 John 1:9 | KJV
Confession is a powerful tool in salvation. You can’t have eternal life if you are not ready to confess your sins to God for Him to forgive you. At times when people confess their sins to God, they fail to remember the specific sins they did. God is not expecting general prayers, but He wants you to be specific. You can’t approach any great person with your plea and appear clueless. God who is more than any great person demands more sharpness and incision in our confession towards Him. Even though He knows what we are about to ask, He still entreats us to ask Him.
Confession can also be made towards one another. Even though all the sins we do are indirectly against God, we actually do them against people directly. The people we commit these sins and iniquities against, demands our confession. At times, if forgiveness can be made to God, He wants us to confess our sins to the people whom we have offended, unless otherwise they are dead. But if they are alive, they demand our utmost confession. It is one of the streamlines of restitution one must do when you want God to forgive you your sins. Forgiveness is not something you have to play around.
Man is a representative of God, so if man forgives you your sins, God also accepts your forgiveness you also make towards Him. In Matthew 6:12 says that, if we forgive others their sins, God will also forgive us when we sin against Him. How can you expect God to forgive you when you fail to forgive others their sins when they confess their sins and iniquities towards you? Sometimes people are shy when they want to confess their sins towards one another. If you are shy to confess, then stop sinning. Who pushed you to sin anyway? It was your choice that led to that.
Many people are hurt and have issues against one another just because we pray to God to forgive us but we are not ready to confess our sins to them when we offend them. The One who confesses his or her sins to God must have a heart and mind of genuine repentance. Confession is nothing unless it links up to the liberation of oneself from the sins and iniquities. If you are not ready to stop sinning and obey God’s Word, your confession is never accepted by God. You can know God has forgiven you, if you can no longer do the evil things you once used to do because, after true confession, God cleanses you from ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, not some unrighteousness.
