DIVINE IMITATORS
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Peter 2:21
Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
-Ephesians 5:1 | KJV
To imitate is to make or do something the same way as (something else) or to do the same thing as (someone) or to copy (someone’s or something’s behavior, sound, appearance, etc.). Everyone has someone in mind that he or she is imitating whether it is direct or indirect. The first line of imitation comes from the biological family. This is because, every parent passes a certain kind of genetic trait to his child. You can’t give what you don’t have. During genetically making ups, imitation process goes on in the chromosomes of the parents where traits are forced to pass from the parents to their offsprings.
Whether the probability is going to be 25% or 50%, there is always going to be something that the child is always going to copy from his or her parents. Whether it is imitation that comes by appearance (body pigmentation, colour of eyes, shape of head, nose, mouth etc) or inherent character traits such as (speech, behaviour, way of thinking, and what have you). There are two main imitations: Acquired and inherited imitations. Inherited imitation is the imitation you have no control over but acquired imitation is the kind of imitation you adopt by carefully observing something or someone.
Another line of imitation which is acquired imitation comes from the environment whether it is from school, church, friends, celebrities or people the child interacts with or from other institutions. You can’t imitate someone without knowing the person or becoming closely related to. As you relate, you imitate certain things that comes from the person’s words. The real human is not the body standing before you, the real person is within and you can know him or her though the words he or she speaks. You will imitate the person by following his or her words.
When we come to the next line of spiritual imitation, there are two opposite forces you are going to imitate. It is either God or Satan. You will bear with me that, you always hear two voices or two words: One says the good and one says the bad. You imitate God by following His voice or Word and you follow Satan through His voice. You cannot be like God if you don’t read your Bible. The Bible contains everything you need to know in order to imitate God. To know that you have imitated God fully, there are nine major fruits you have to bear (Galatians 5:22-23).
