FORTRESS
David Abankwah
READ: Acts 4:12
The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
-Proverbs 18:10 | KJV
I had a massive practical experience of how fortified the name of Jesus Christ can be in the midst of a very serious car accident. There was a time when the mother of one of our church members died and we had to go to the funeral. Before we went, I had a feeling that something bad would happen to us along the way, but I trusted in the prayers the church prayed the dawn before we left on the same day as we had an all night service. As we boarded the car, we reached a certain place where the driver wanted to change one of the front tyres from one of the tyre shops.
But he changed his mind because he believed that the tyre could take us where we were going. Few kilometers from there when everything seemed moving on well as if we were having a safe journey, suddenly we heard a loud burst from one of the front tyres. Then I heard the name of Jesus Christ being mentioned in the car from all angles. On normal circumstance when one of the front tyres of a car bursts, one of the likelihood is that, the car should somersault. But as the name was mentioned, the car became steady and Jesus Christ took control of the wheel. I knew Romans 10:13 would work for us.
We travelled several miles before the car could stop because the speed at which the car was going could not stop at once. When we got out of the car and saw how the tyre had been, we were shocked. The tyre was completely deflated and tattered into shreds. I have had many glimpses of what the name of Jesus Christ had done, but this one was one of a kind. In the face of death, there were many thoughts running through my mind. My major concern was whether I had completed my purpose on earth and the type of account I would give to God after my death. 2 Corinthians 5:10 was now vivid to me.
Even though physical death is like profit for a Christian, I wasn’t expecting it at this stage of my life when I thought my works of salvation were not completed yet. God taught me something that, in the face of death, you don’t think of marriage, money, cars, houses, lands, or your degrees or any material thing. Your only focus and concern is your soul. You think through your life, whether you had wasted your years without serving God or not. We should note that, the fortification of the name of the Lord is time-bound. After your death, the name cannot save you any more. Better believe in the name and be saved now than to doubt it and perish later.
