SEXUAL IMMORALITY

David Abankwah

SERIES: Day 13

But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. So whenever he went in to his brother’s wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother.

-Genesis 38:9 | ESV

Birth control is one branch of sexual immorality that many people are not mindful of. When God finished creating man, he gave a strict commandment that they should be fruitful, increase and subdue the earth too (Genesis 1:28). Yet, that commandment is not accepted by many people now. Today when you give birth to many children, the world thinks you are insane. The world makes you feel worthless. The world makes you feel you can’t cater for them all. But least do the world know that God is the Jehovah Jireh – the God our Provider. It is Him who provides children and He knows how to care for them all.

But what do we see now? Today when you ask many believers the children they will give birth to, you hear them saying 2 or 3, as if they are the Creators of their own children. Many believers will tell you that the world has hit an economical breakdown so when you give birth to many children, you can’t provide their needs. Believer, you are behaving like Onan and Er in the Bible who engaged themselves in family planning and God killed them. In Israel there was a law concerning Levirate marriage that states that: When an elder brother dies without having children even though he was married, his younger brother will remarry the wife (Deuteronomy 25:5)

The firstborn son that they will bear will succeed the dead brother (Deuteronomy 25:6). Before Er died, the reason why he didn’t have children was because he was practising withdrawal method, thus another way of performing family planning or birth control. Because he did that, the Lord killed him (Genesis 38:7). When Er died, Onan accepted to perform the Levirate marriage and he also practised the same thing and God killed him too (Genesis 38:9-10). Now, if God killed someone in the Bible because of family planning, what will God do to you when you wear condom?

The best birth control practice is abstinence. If you know the implication of family planning, you will never have one. If you don’t want to give birth, you better abstain from sex. The only product you can have from sex is a baby. Today, many men know how to have sex but they are afraid of giving birth. If you have given birth somewhere, better look for the children before it is too late. Or else, it will definitely stop you from going to New Jerusalem. You are a public servant; anywhere you are being transferred to, you have a child there. What sort of person are you?

Prayer Diary: Lord Jesus, thank you for your Word today. Please forgive me and cleanse me from every act of birth control as I repent from them all in Jesus name, Amen.
