CLAYEY MORTALS
David Abankwah
READ: Romans 9:19-21
But now, O Lord, you are our Father; WE ARE THE CLAY, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.
-Isaiah 64:8 | ESV
Forgetfulness is a trait that affects mortals a lot but when you become more spiritual, you will be more receptive in taking notes of little details and remembrance of past events which are memorable. One key thing mortals easily forget is how they were made. We have to note that, we are not self-made. We didn’t also pop up from nowhere but we were created by someone. We are clay in the hands of a potter and our lives are in His hands. He can make or unmake us. He is the Determiner of our lives. He can choose to increase our life span or choose to end it.
He can choose to inflict the clay with any disease He wants and heal the clay at will and no doctor can question him. When He kills the clay, He has not murdered and the Inspector General of Police cannot arrest Him. God is the One who holds the final sway. We are clay in His hand which He can do absolutely everything He wants with us (Deuteronomy 32:39). The issue with mortals now is that, sometimes we easily forget that we are clay in the hands of a Potter who can do anything He wants with us. The clay cannot question the Potter why didn’t He give him or her a white colour.
The clay cannot question the Potter why didn’t He give her more eyelashes or align them at a position the way she wants it to be. The clay cannot question the Potter why did He create him to be so short or too tall. The clay cannot question the Potter why did He give him a small penile size. The clay cannot question the Potter why did He create him or her to be too lean or too fat. The clay cannot question the Potter why did He create him to be in such a poor family. The clay cannot question the Potter why did He create some to be beautiful or handsome and some to be ugly. Everything God created was good. If you have big eyes, it is good.
If you are short it is good. If you think you are ugly, it is good. If you think you are beautiful it is good. If you are black it is good and if you are white it is also good. Man is not a judge over the things God created. Instead of humbling ourselves under the Potter’s hand to live righteous lives, so that He will have mercy over us and save us, we are here on earth correcting what God has created. If you are rich, blessed, wealthy, or whatever position you have, always remember that you are clay. Some day that you will be dissolved and washed away by the flood of death, what account are you going to give to the Potter?
Prayer Diary: I pray for the grace to stay humble irrespective of the status I have in life and ministry and the constant awareness of who I am in the Potter’s hands in Jesus name, Amen.
