SIN OF COMMISSION

READ: Romans 1:29-31
¹⁹Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, ²⁰idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, ²¹envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these…..
-Galatians 5:19-21 | ESV
Sin of commission is the sin the Lord has stated emphatically or virtually in His Word that we should refrain from. It is a commission because it is a command. We cannot choose to obey or choose not to. A commandment is mandatory and it is worth obeying. A lot of people think there are so many sins going on in the world but they are not written in the Bible so they have the license to practice them at will. I used to think like that. When I read the Bible and I didn’t see sins like pornography, masturbation, smoking, phone sex and things like that clearly written in the Bible, I thought they weren’t sins since they were not in the Bible, I thought. But, I was mistaken.
I believe the Lord knew the sins that the 21st century and beyond would engage themselves in some time to come, that was why when Paul was mentioning the sins in Galatians 5:19-21, He inspired him to add ‘AND THINGS LIKE THESE’. Apostle John also added to this in John 21:25 that there were so many things Jesus Christ did, but if all of them were written in the Bible, the world itself would not have had a place to contain the books that would have been written. Likewise, there were so many sins like pornography, masturbation, smoking and things like that, that could have been written but the world would not have had a place to contain all of them.
They were summarised into ‘AND THINGS LIKE THESE.’ It is the Holy Spirit who is the Teacher of the Word that can open your eyes to see all the things that the summarized ‘AND THINGS LIKE THESE’ contain. That is why when you tell certain people that drinking alcohol is a sin, they go naughts. Today when you tell women indecent dressing is a sin, they don’t want to accept it. If indeed you have the Holy Spirit, He would have opened your eyes to these embedded sins. Jesus Christ once said that, the Holy Spirit would come and take some of His words and things (including sins) that were yet to come too including ‘AND THINGS LIKE THESE’, He would reveal them to us (John 16:13-14).
It is not the Holy Spirit who is coming to take away these sins. Stopping sins is the work of the believer. That is why it is termed REPENTANCE. You have to renew your mind and stop it. We have been linking actions of sins to the devil but if you are able to resist him in the mind, he will definitely flee from you (James 4:7). Satan cannot push you against your will to do something you don’t want you. It is you who accept to follow him. It is your job to stay away from every form of sin of commission, being it abomination (high-end sin), iniquity (middle-end sin) and trangression (low-end sin).
Prayer Diary: Lord Jesus Christ, I take full responsibility of all the sins of commission and I pledge my allegiance to you today that, I am staying away from all of them. So help me God, Amen
