ALMS
David Abankwah
READ: Luke 12:33
But when thou doest ALMS, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
-Matthew 6:3 | KJV
Charity is the archaic word of alms which means something (such as money or food) given freely to relieve the poor. Giving is part of Christianity. A believer who can’t give cannot be a Christian. When God wanted to save man, He gave His one and only begotten Son (John 3:16). When God wanted to set Abraham as the Father of faith, Abraham had to give his one and only son (Isaac) – Genesis 22:2
Do you think it was easy for God to give His one and only Son for us? He set an example for us to follow. He didn’t let His left hand know what He was about to do with His right handed Son called Jesus Christ. Satan never knew who Jesus Christ was (that was why he had to ask if he was the son of God in Matthew 4:3) because God didn’t sound a trumpet before Him or behaved like a hypocrite.
If Satan knew that Jesus Christ was the Son of God sent to save us from our sins which could only happen through the giving of His body as a ransom on the cross, Satan would not have influenced Judas to betray Him. Few rich people give alms in secret without the knowledge of the media. Many intentionally alert the media to broadcast the story (see sounding trumpet in Matthew 6:2) of what they are doing so people can appreciate them for their good work done.
In this case, the left hand (the world) knows what the left hand (the alms) the rich people are giving. Sometimes you see people telling you that: ‘David, do you know the shirt brother A was wearing today in church? It is I who bought it for him last week’ Anytime you forsake the instructions of alms giving according to the principles of Matthew 6:1-4, you can’t reap the blessings that comes along with it. A true giver is the One who preaches or teaches about Jesus Christ to the world (Matthew 28:19-20).

Lift up prayers for deliverance from the habit of hypocrisy that makes you give alms on the basis of appreciation from men in the name of Jesus Christ.
