PURE IN HEART
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Peter 1:22

Blessed are the PURE IN HEART: for they shall see God.
-Matthew 5:8 | KJV

One of the ambitions of Moses when He became a Minister of God was to see the glory of God (Exodus 33:18). God knew that, it was not just the glory He wanted to see but His face (Exodus 33:20). God knew He had made His glory manifested to Moses so many times and to the Israelites. Moses also wondered how could he be with God for so many years and not see His face? God saw the determination of Moses to see Him and told him to come up on the mountain (Exodus 24:1).

He directed him to take certain people along with him – Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy of the elders of Israel who were later anointed to share the burden of the ministry of Moses (Numbers 11:16-17). Why didn’t God call all the Israelites to meet Him there? It was for a particular purpose why God had to separate the boys from the men because it is not anyone who can see God. Those who can see God are those who are living in righteousness, holiness and sanctification.

God also gave additional instruction to Moses that, Aaron, Abihu, Nadab and the seventy elders should worship afar but he (Moses) should come near the Lord. This means that, the percentage of the purity of the heart of Moses was more than Abihu, Nadab, Aaron and the seventy elders. The more your heart is purified, the more nearer you get to God and the more God reveals Himself to you. To be pure in heart is to stay away from all sins and iniquities.

This is because sin and iniquity come from the heart (Proverbs 4:23; Mark 7:21; Luke 6:45). Because Moses and the secluded people were pure in heart, God revealed Himself to them. They saw the God of Israel. There was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity (Exodus 24:10). Moses also got the privilege to see the back of God when God’s glory passed before him (Exodus 33:23). We ought to be pure in heart so we can see God in New Jerusalem (Revelation 22:4).
