GREATNESS
David Abankwah
READ: Genesis 15:14
But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
-Matthew 23:11 | KJV
The meaning of greatness according to human dictionary is an outstandingly superior or skillful person; a very successful or admired person; markedly superior in character or quality; especially: noble and remarkably skilled in a certain field of work but when it comes to the divine dictionary which can be found in the Bible, the meaning of greatness differs. Reading from Matthew 23:11, we get a new meaning of what greatness is about: A great person is someone who serves others.
Greatness is not about how fat one’s bank account is or how rich or wealthy someone is. Greatness is not determined by how famous one has become. Greatness is not about the royal family one comes from. Greatness is not about how beautiful or how handsome you are that others tend to admire or worship. Greatness is no where near how charismatic you can speak in public or lead a crowd. Greatness is not rated by status or position. If you don’t have God’s Spirit, you are not a great person (1 John 4:4).
If only we have the Spirit of God, we will be humble enough to serve others. Today many youth want to be successful so quickly that they can’t submit or subject themselves under authorities. They can’t be sent! They can’t be taught! They can’t be instructed! They can’t respect and honour their leaders! They see every Authority placed over them as a thorn in their fleshes. One day I received an unanimous call from someone who was narrating his story to me about where he was staying.
To him, he saw his service as a punishment and he wanted a way out. Wow! I used my life as an advice to him because I had stayed with so many people and served them faithfully. Whenever I am leaving them, it pains them to lose such a great servant. God is looking for such relentless people to use. The more you become successful, the more you should be humble to serve others in life and ministry. If you think you are great, you can’t serve God who is the Greatest because there can’t be two captains in one ship.

Lift up prayers for the art of humility to serve God and men. Pray that, the more you become anointed, powerful, rich, wealthy and famous, the more humble you should serve in Jesus name.
