WALK OF FAITH
David Abankwah
READ: 2 Chronicles 7:17-18
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to WALK, even as HE WALKED.
-1 John 2:6 | KJV
When God called Abraham to be the Father of faith, He told him to walk before Him and be blameless (Genesis 17:1). He didn’t tell him to run or to sprint or to jog before Him and be blameless. Faith is not a matter of running but a matter of walking. The road of faith is not made of asphalt where you can take a vehicle and cruise on it at will. It is so narrow that you can’t take a car so you have no option than to walk on it (Matthew 7:14).
Before the first coming of Jesus Christ who is Faith, the road was full of valleys, mountains, roughness, and crookedness. A forerunner with the Spirit of Elijah (John the Baptist) needed to be sent before Him to prepare the way so every valley should be exalted, every mountains should be brought low, every crooked place be made straight, and rough places be made smooth (Isaiah 40:3-4; Matthew 3:1-3). It was in Isaiah 40:3 we saw that the road of faith is a desert.
After John was done with the road construction, Jesus Christ started the ministry of faith. He testified that the road which had been made was not as easy as it seemed because, the road was full of difficulties (Matthew 7:14). The road was having slaps on it, despisement, oppressions, afflictions rejection, beatings, wounds, insults, nails, thirst, crown of thorns, crucifixion (Isaiah 53). Jesus Christ walked on this road and bore all sufferings that were associated with it.
After successfully completing the walk of faith, He has left His footsteps in the desert for us to follow (1 Peter 2:21). But there are certain believers who have decided not to follow His footsteps but are rather creating their own paths. They don’t want to go through the crisis that this road entails. If God wasn’t biased towards His Son but watched Him suffer on this road, no one can be excused. There is no any other way which we can pass through to have eternal life than what Jesus Christ laid for us (John 14:6).
