RETURNABLE LOVE
David Abankwah
READ: Deuteronomy 10:12
We love him, because he first loved us.
-1 John 4:19 | KJV
It is a sword through the hearts of many Christian brothers when they reach the peaks of their marriages only to be rejected by the sisters who often see them as brothers. Even though there is the intent, expression and proposal of love, yet, certain women can’t return the love these brothers show them. For this reason many concerned brothers have turned themselves into Evangelists only to look for souls who are women outside the church to covert them for the purpose of marriage.
Even though that is not their ministries, they have forced themselves to be soul-winners! What is so painful is to see a love which can’t be returned. Many wives have been sacrificing a lot for their husbands but the love they expect to receive in return is rather the opposite. If you see a man who lies on top of a woman in the night, you will notice that, it is a suicide mission! Despite all these, he beats her in addition! Love is so painful when the other party can’t return your love. Love is so painful when someone loves you but you can’t see it!
The love that is also painful is to give birth to a child, care and cater for his needs and when he becomes of age, he becomes deviant, rebellious, ungrateful and forgetful. It is more depressive to encounter this and that is what happened to God in Genesis 6:6 (see God grieving over man whom He had given birth to) and Isaiah 1:2 (see nourishing and bringing up children but they rebelled against Him). God was expecting man to return the love He had for Him, yet man couldn’t. Failure to return the love of God is sin (1 John 4:19).
God loved us so much that, the love He had for us surpassed His one and begotten Son (John 3:16). Jesus Christ is the love of God, yet He gave Him for us. Whether we wanted the Son or not, He gave Him for us and as He has given Him, He expects us to return the love by accepting His Son as our Lord and Master. Those who couldn’t return the love of God will be condemned into everlasting Lake of fire and those who returned the love will have eternal life in New Jerusalem. One good turn deserves the other. God loved you so love Him too. Never be slack in returning His love!
