COUNTS OF JOY
David Abankwah
READ: Psalm 30:5
My brethren, COUNT IT ALL JOY when you fall into various trials,
-James 1:2 | NKJV
To learn counting when I was in elementary school, we were asked to bring bottle heads as our counters. Many who couldn’t obey this simple instruction of learning arithmetics, grew up to hate the core of mathematics and its totality. The more you skip simple things, the more difficulties you create for yourself. Everything is based on principles and until you follow them, you will never succeed, the right way.. One of the principles of trials is that, we have to count them as joy anytime we face them.
When we face trials, it is not the time for us to outsmart the Word of God. Instead of us counting trials as joy, you see as counting them as sorrows. Christianity is not only about butter and bread. If anyone told you that you would have your way through it easier, then you might have been deceived. Even for you to achieve an academic qualification, it doesn’t come on a silver platter, how much more the spiritual qualification of eternal life that you think you can have it easier? To be a Christian as a graduate, there are many exams you have to write and pass.
For you to gain the spiritual qualification, you have to be tempted and tested or tried. Satan tempts your stand or ground in God with the intention of causing you to sin or commit evil (Matthew 6:13). He knows that if he is able to cause to fall, you may not rise up again. That is why the Bible says that, the One who thinks he stands, he should be careful lest he fall (1 Corinthians 10:12). You can’t have eternal life without overcoming every temptation Satan and other evil spirits bring your way.
God also tries the faith of the believer with the intention of promoting him or her into another grade or level of perfection, completeness, patience and sufficiency (James 1:3-4). Increment of faith will not come until you have passed the test of God. Because you may never know whether what you are facing is temptation or trial, then consider every hardship, persecution, crisis, affliction or any situation you face because of Godliness as joy. It is easier to pass trials with joy than to pass trials with sorrows!
