SENSUALITY
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Corinthians 3:1-3

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
-Matthew 4:4 | NKJV

I experienced sensuality when I was fasting one time when I was in senior high school. I had told the Lord I was fasting to a particular time but when I got to the dining hall, my plans changed. The food before me made me renounce my promise to God. I had changed my mind about the fasting and I was going to break the fasting at that period. How God was so disappointed in me I guess and if there was a blessing for me that day, the food has taken it away because of my sensuality. I had yielded to bread instead of yielding to the word I had promised God of.

Indeed, God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent (Numbers 23:19). Truly, whatever He says, He does it for His Word is unfailing. God doesn’t change His mind like I did when I was hungry. He doesn’t change His word to suit our lifestyles neither does He change as the world is changing with pace. This is because, He is a Spirit (John 4:24). Because He is Spiritual, He cannot flow in sensuality. Jesus Christ who was God manifested in the flesh stayed on earth for 33 years, yet, He lived a life of constant spirituality.

Satan thought he could overcome Him when he approached Jesus at His abased moment when He was physically weak (because of 40 days and 40 nights fasting). He tempted Him with three major acts of sensuality: Sensuality through the medium of flesh (lust or the flesh – Matthew 4:3); sensuality through the medium of eyes (lust of the eyes – Matthew 4:8) and sensuality through the medium of the pleasures of the world (pride of life – Matthew 4:5-6). Because the Son was also spiritual like His Father, He overcame the greatest enemy of spirituality – Satan.

Majority of spirituality hinges on the Word of God. If your prayers can be answered, it is the Word of God. If your fasting can be effective, it is also the Word of God. You can’t even practise righteous life without obeying the Word of God and the Word of God cannot be found in any other Scriptural book except the Bible. God expects us to live spiritual lives. Any carnal person is a cadava in the spirit (Romans 8:6). Your attitude towards spiritual things is the determinant of the aptitude that will influence the altitude of your spirituality!

Lift up prayers to engage with all sensuality in your life and ministry as you practise spiritual life through the help of the Holy Spirit in the name of Jesus Christ.
