NEWNESS
David Abankwah
READ: John 3:1-21

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become NEW.
-II Corinthians 5:17 | NKJV

Looking at the verse of 2 Corinthians 5:17, we often misinterpret it. We often quote this quotation when someone becomes accepts Jesus Christ as His Lord and Master. We tell the person he is now a new creature and old things have passed and now, all things have become new. But in actual fact, the person standing there has not become NEW because he has not changed. Born again is not the day that you accepted Jesus Christ, confessed Him or invited Him into your life. There is difference between ACCEPTANCE and BEING IN CHRIST.

If you read 2 Corinthians 5:17 carefully, you will see that the Bible says: ‘IF ANYONE IS IN CHRIST, he is a new creation’. There is difference between repentance, conversion and being born again. How therefore can someone be in Christ? Jesus Christ said in Luke 5:4 that: ABIDE IN ME, and I in you. AS THE BRANCH CANNOT BEAR FRUIT OF ITSELF, UNLESS IT ABIDES IN THE VINE, NEITHER CAN YOU, UNLESS YOU ABIDE IN ME. John 15:4 NKJV. He therefore showed us how we can be in Him in John 15:7: If you abide in Me, and MY WORDS ABIDE IN YOU,….

Jesus Christ is the Word and until the Word can abide in you fully first, you can’t abide or be in Christ. It is the practise of the Word of God that leads one to be in Christ and not the hearing. Hearing the Word of God only brings faith (Romans 10:17). It is through the doings of the Word of God that can make you a new creature. To be a new creature, it means you have now been born again (changed completely through the Word in that you cannot sin again). God had finished creating everything but what is left of God to create is the creation of born again Christians.

Creation of born again or new creatures cannot happen without the Word of God. This is because for Jesus Christ to become a SON OF MAN (new creature) He first had to be metamorphosed through the Word first. For you to become a SON Of God (new creature/born again), you must go through the same process of being metamorphosed through the Word of God. Anyone who has been truly BORN AGAIN cannot SIN AGAIN. Whoever has been BORN OF GOD DOES NOT SIN, for His seed remains in him; and HE CANNOT SIN, because HE HAS BEEN Born Of God. -I John 3:9 NKJV
