ART OF HUMILITY
David Abankwah
READ: Philippians 2:5-11
By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life.
-Proverbs 22:4 | NKJV
One character trait Jesus Christ told us to learn from Him was not prayer. He didn’t tell us to learn fasting from Him. He didn’t tell us to learn giving from Him even though all these aforementioned are important duties we have to carry out as Christians. The special character trait that He told us to learn from Him is HUMILITY. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and LOWLY IN HEART, and you will find rest for your souls 11:29 NKJV. Another word or synonym of humility is lowliness, modesty, meekness or down-to-earthness.
Humility is an art we should follow. An art is skill acquired by experience, study or observation. Jesus Christ is the Author of Humility. It is Him alone we can learn humility from. From the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelation, there has never existed a man who ever lived who was so humble than Jesus Christ. What made His humility so exceptional was that, He was so low that even though He was God, He didn’t live His life as a God but as a man. Even in the appearance of man, He also humbled Himself and became very obedient to the point of death (Philippians 2:5-8).
To adopt the art of humility, you have to repent. It is the change of mindset that leads to humility. You can be taught humility for all eternity but if you don’t change your mind, you can never be humble. Humility is a mindset. It is the mindset Jesus Christ had that made Him so humble as such. Paul put it in Philippians 2:5, that, LET THIS MIND OF CHRIST (MIND OF HUMILITY) BE IN YOU WHICH WAS ALSO IN CHRIST JESUS….Today people especially the youth are so proud that they can’t even humble themselves to their Pastors.
They think that as they can preach and teach, they are also powerful. They think they can lead the church too. They think they can pray and deliver people from evil spirits. God can never flow with proud people. Satan was the first person to be proud but see his end. Every pride has its meted fall. God hates the proud and He will find every way to abase you so you can’t reap eternal life that will yield you spiritual riches and honour. If you think you know something, someone knows more than you. Those who are humble are weak in men’s sight but mighty in God’s presence.

Lift up prayers for the strength to bear the yoke of Jesus Christ’s lowliness and gentility so you can walk in His humility in life and ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.
