SHEEP AMID WOLVES
David Abankwah
READ: Psalm 57:4
Behold, I send you out as SHEEP IN THE MIDST OF WOLVES. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
-Matthew 10:16 | NKJV
The words of Jesus Christ is so true that, believers have to be very particular about. When I was checking for the meaning of sheep, I discovered that, the synonym of sheep is: ANGEL, DOVE, and INNOCENT. But what got me so shocked was the antonym (opposite) to the word – sheep is WOLF. Jesus Christ didn’t use sheep and wolf in Matthew 10:16 just because He felt like using but He knew what He was talking about. Sheep and wolves are two contrasting animals used as typologies for the kingdom of light and kingdom of darkness respectively.
God allowed sin to prevail because He knew what He was doing. He didn’t eliminate or annihilate Lucifer and his angels when they rebelled against Him. God set the earth as a transient playground through which the kingdom of light could pass through into eternal life. All the hosts of heaven (kingdom and light) have passed through this earth before. God the Father, Son, the Holy Spirit, four living creatures, twenty-four elders, the angels and all hosts of heaven have passed through or stepped on this earth before.
This is because, for one to have eternal life, one has to defeat the kingdom of darkness (wolves) through the character of a sheep. As humans too, we can’t have eternal life without God sending us into this earth. Every soul is in God, but why didn’t He keep all of us in Him, bring us all into New Jerusalem for us to have eternal life, but sends us here on earth to be born and live in this world of darkness? The earth is like a portal or intermediary where the sheep (Christian) has to overcome the wolves (Satan and his agents).
Sheep are marked to be timid, harmless, defenceless, easily led or docile creature which we are entreated to be so we can overcome wolves who are marked to hunt in packs especially in the night, ferocious and deadly creatures. How can a sheep defeat a wolf? This sounds unreal but we have to be sheep. It is the obedience of becoming a sheep that the Holy Spirit can help us overcome sin which is the poison wolves’ bites bring. A sheep (believer) which is not led by the shepherd (Holy Spirit) become a prey for wolves.

Lift up prayers for obedience to the Holy Spirit so you can be led by Him to overcome every wolf of sin in the name of Jesus Christ.
