WHAT IS IN YOUR HEART?
David Abankwah
READ: Genesis 6:5-6
The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
-Jeremiah 17:9 | NKJV
Christianity, they say is in the heart, but many who sing this chorus, normally have a heart full of evil. Woman, what makes you expose yourself, dressing indecently all in the name of fashion? Man, what makes you expose your body all in the name of body building? The body is the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16; 6:12) if you don’t know, and everything you do with it, you will give account of it some day to come. From the crown of your hair to the soles of your feet was given to you so you can be a steward of it. You are keeping it for the Holy Spirit to possess it.
Woe betides anyone who destroys the temple. One of the chambers of this temple is a member called HEART. This member of the body is its engine spiritually and physically. The brain coordinates the body in a way but it is the heart that supplies it with the necessary necessities like glucose that it needs to function. That is the same in the Spirit. The heart is the gateway to the soul. The soul is not the mind and heart as some see it, but the soul is the inner man (the real you). What you do with the physical heart affects the soul.
This is what Jesus Christ said in Mark 7:15 that it is not what goes into you that defiles you but what comes out of you and nothing (evil or good deed) cannot come out of you without the heart producing it (Matthew 15:18). So far as the heart provides the mind what it needs, it will control it with what it has in stock. In Christianity how God deals with the body is likened to the tabernacle: the courtyard (the five senses), the holy place (the mind) and the Holy of Holiest (the heart). If your heart is not pure, you can never see God (Matthew 5:8). When you are in Christianity, you shouldn’t joke at all.
This is because it is not every believer who is a Christian. Christians are those who have the Holy Spirit in them. If you don’t, you are not one of God’s children (Romans 8:9). The part of the body which is the Master bedroom for the Holy Spirit is the HEART. That is why when Simon wanted to buy the Holy Spirit, Peter told him his heart was not right before God because of bitterness and bound iniquity (Acts 8:20-23). What is in your heart? Maybe it may not be bitterness, but one of the works of the flesh in Galatians 5:19-21. The Holy Spirit cannot stay in anyone who has one of these.
