LAW FULFILLMENT
David Abankwah
READ: Matthew 5:17

Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW.
-Romans 13:10 | NKJV

Law has been an entrenched thing in every institution. A place that is full of sin, iniquity, transgression and abomination is a place bereft of law and its enforcement. The laws of the land is normally called constitution. We often obey the laws of the land because we are afraid we may be arrested and imprisoned, yet when it comes to the laws of God, we say they have passed. We say they are old-fashioned. We say when the world is changing, we must change too. We often want to change the Bible to suit our sinful lives but we don’t want the Bible to change our lives.

The first law God gave man was in the Garden of Eden. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
-Genesis 2:16‭-‬17 | NKJV. The second major laws God gave man were in the lives of the Israelites which we normally know as the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17). When you look at the Ten Commandments carefully, it is all about love. The first four laws are the Love we should have for God.

The sixth law to the last are the laws we should have for one another. The fifth law which is the intermediary or Sabbath is the Mediator, Saviour or Jesus Christ, who reconciles us back to God’s love and love for our neighbours. Fulfillment of the Ten Commandments of God is what Jesus Christ made it love for God and love for our neighbours in Mark 12:30-31. If you look at Mark 12:29 carefully, you will know that He was talking about the Ten Commandments because He said: Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. Jesus Christ quoted from Deuteronomy 6:4.

As Moses was presenting the Ten Commandments to the Israelites that’s what he said. Joshua came to review the Ten Commandments in Deuteronomy 6:4. The Ten Commandments have not passed away as some people say. The Word of God does not pass away. Don’t kill, has not passed. Don’t steal has not passed and what have you. The laws of God do not put us into slavery but liberate us from the bondage of sin. When you are able to obey all the laws of God without belittling any, you will become a righteous person and this shows that you have love.
