THE NEW MAN
David Abankwah
READ: Matthew 9:16-17

And that you put on the NEW MAN which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
-Ephesians 4:24 | NKJV

Being a new man is not something that rubs off to you from the sky. Many people think when they accept Jesus Christ, their lives supernaturally or mysteriously changes and they can’t live in sin anymore. So they relax and think their new lives will be influenced from that time by the Holy Spirit. But the newness in the Lord is done by you. You have to make conscious effort to put a stop to all evil and cling to what is good and this takes time. Putting on newness is done by you and not God. The Holy Spirit is given to help after you have developed to a certain stage.

The Spirit, God releases is holy and until you are righteous, He will never come. The disciples walked with Jesus Christ for three years and before the ascension, He told them to wait in Jerusalem for the promise (Acts 1:4). Why didn’t Jesus give the disciples the Holy Spirit immediately He met them? How many years have you walked with God that you need His Spirit? Are you done preparing the body which is His temple for His coming? Is there no sin in you that will corrupt the Spirit? Are you still holding on to self-will and not the will of God? If not, then repent!

To walk in newness: 1. You have to read the Bible or listen to anointed messages, study and meditate upon the Word day and night. 2. Put away your self-will and allow the will of God to control your life. 3. You have to crucify your old self, its desires or lusts 4. You have to deny yourself and take up your cross (sacrifices) 5. You have to pray without ceasing 6. Fast to build the inner man 7. Fellowship among true believers 8. Be converted through the renewing of your mind. 9. Be converted through the renewing of your heart. 10. Share your faith with others and win souls.

Walking in newness is not a state, it is a practice; newness is a journey. Until you have died or until the Second coming of Jesus Christ, you have to keep putting on the new man day in and day out. Newness has no graduation or retirement. When you walk in newness, there are a lot of sacrifices you have to make. You have to leave certain friends and family, and resign all sinful jobs. What you think about and say, should correspond to your new life of righteousness. When you are complete in righteousness, then the Holy Spirit will know you now need His help in holiness.
