ON A RUN

READ: Jeremiah 2:13

But let justice run down like water, And righteousness like a mighty stream.
-Amos 5:24 | NKJV

Everything God had created is a lesson man must learn. Sometimes when man rebels against God, He uses animals to straighten us. When God sent Jonah and he was unwilling to go, He used a great fish to teach Jonah a lesson. God sent the fish to swallow Jonah and the animal obeyed but man who was created in the image of God was disobedient to Him. There was a time when Jesus Christ was entering Jerusalem triumphantly on a colt when the disciples rejoiced and praised God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, the Pharisees were not cool with it.

They told Jesus Christ from the crowd that He should rebuke His disciples but Jesus Christ told them that, if the disciples should keep mute, stones will immediately cry out (Luke 19:37-40). Animate beings obey God and inanimate being (stone) was also willing to obey God but what about man? Many find it hard to obey all the commandments of God. Some see the laws of God as unnecessary or old-fashioned and some as important. In that case, sin, iniquity, abomination and transgression are on the run in the lives of many believers who claim they are Christians.

In Amos 5:24, God is telling us two things that we need to let them run out from us. Like the rivers of living waters of the Holy Spirit flow from our bellies, we should see righteousness and judgement as integral parts of the waters. When the Holy Spirit stays in you, you will definitely execute rightful judgement because you won’t accept bribes or become biased towards someone because of the person’s status, political affiliation, background, age, or power. If all Judges were to have the Holy Spirit, I don’t think many innocent people would have been imprisoned.

Jesus Christ said that, what a person eats does not defile him but what comes out of him. This means that when someone commits sin, it springs out or gush out or runs out from within. Likewise, righteousness is also within. It runs like water from the inner man into the heart and this flows into the other parts of the body. God wants us to be just and righteous because justice and righteousness are the foundations of His throne in heaven (Psalms 89:14). God won’t tell us the right way we should go if He knows we can’t achieve it. Justice and righteousness is possible!

Lift up prayers for the fellowship of the Holy Spirit with your soul so His fruits can gush out from the inner man into your body like streams of living waters in the name of Jesus Christ.
