LACK OF UNDERSTANDING
David Abankwah
READ: Psalms 32:9
“For My people are foolish, they have not known Me. They are silly children, and they have NO UNDERSTANDING. They are wise to do evil, But to do good they have no knowledge.”
-Jeremiah 4:22 | NKJV
To understand is: ¹to grasp the meaning of; ²to grasp the reasonableness of; ³to have thorough or technical acquaintance with or expertness in the practice of; ⁴to be thoroughly familiar with the character and propensities of; ⁵to have the power of comprehension; ⁶to achieve a grasp of the nature, significance, or explanation of something; ⁷to believe or infer something to be the case; ⁸to show a sympathetic or tolerant attitude toward something. Knowledge is good, wisdom is better but understanding is the best.
In life and ministry you and I need understanding that can make us absolutely distinctive from the crowd. When you have understanding, you will be able to grasp why God is the Creator of the universe and not big bang or any other theory. You will grasp the significance of the Trinity. You will be able to grasp the truth of the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. You will achieve the significance of the basic truths of Christianity. It is understanding that make one have the power of comprehension to write a book on John 3:16 but teaching with it for even 30 minutes will be a tug of war if you lack understanding.
First, understanding is one of the Seven Spirits of God (Isaiah 11:2). Second, understanding makes one able to interpret events, dreams, people, things or occurrences with accuracy (Genesis 41:15). Third, understanding makes you able to grasp the existence of God, His nature, His power, His deliverance, His protection over your life and why you have to be grateful to Him (Deuteronomy 9:3, 6; 28:49). Fourth, the hand of the Lord is upon those who understand the things that concern Him (1 Chronicles 28:19). Fifth, those who understand things are able to impart understanding too (Nehemiah 8:7-8).
Sixth, understanding makes you humble in learning new things (Job 6:24). Seventh, when you have understanding, you can’t be deceived or be outwitted (Job 15:9). Eighth, when you have understanding, you will have answers to challenging questions (Job 23:5). Ninth, the eyes of the Lord is upon men of understanding (Psalms 14:2; 53:2). Tenth, understanding makes you walk in light (Psalms 82:5). Eleventh, understanding enables you to execute wisdom well (Psalms 92:6). Twelfth, understanding brings about maturity (Psalms 119:100).
