THE KINGDOM ENQUIRIES
David Abankwah
READ: Luke 14:28-32
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
-Matthew 7:7 | NKJV
When I heard asking, seeking and knocking in Matthew 7:7, I didn’t let God have a peace of mind. I worried Him with my requests all the time. I knew that if I asked Him whatever I wanted He would give it to me. I went on seeking so I could find what I needed and wanted. That was not all, I was also knocking till God would open the door and say, ‘It’s enough David, have what you want.’ Many believers are still repeating this same mistake I did some time ago. It is not bad to ask, seek or knock in prayers for material things but have you bothered enough to enquire about the Kingdom of heaven you are in?
If we read Luke 11:13, God tells us that the Holy Spirit is whom we have to enquire for. Today many believers are so carnal that, what they request for is food to eat, water to drink, cloth to wear, house to live in, child-bearing, money, marriage, job, promotion etcetera. The motive of many people who go to church is not eternal life. In that case when they are not having the things they had asking telling God for, they start leaving the church. They get disappointed in God why He is not responding to their pleas. Some are so funny that, they can give God a deadline that if He doesn’t do what they want from Him, they will stop serving Him.
You can’t force God’s hands to respond to you. Your self-will cannot supersede the will of God. Christianity is not a hit and run avenue where you can step in for what you want and then leave the church at will. If you don’t know why you are serving God, then you better stop. It is important to realise that, before you even become a believer, you must enquire about Christianity first. Anyone who wants to go to another country enquire about the procedures he needs to follow so he can pass through to be in that country. Christianity is also like that. You are moving from the world into it and it needs enquiry.
You have to ask about the what’s, why’s, how’s of Christianity and you have to be taught before becoming a believer. After understanding it, then you start seeking by going through the processes of faith, confession, baptism, righteousness, prayer, fasting, fellowshipping, Bible reading, studying and meditation, evangelism and soul-winning etcetera. Then you have to knock for the Holy Spirit to help you practise holy life. It is the Holy Spirit who knows where eternal life is and He will lead you there. He will also bless you with everything He thinks you need and want as part of the journey to New Jerusalem.

Lift up prayers for thorough understanding of what Christianity is all about, the strength to keep seeking and the persistence in knocking for the coming of the Holy Spirit as you prepare yourself for His coming in the name of Jesus Christ.
