RESISTANCE
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Peter 5:9
Therefore submit to God. RESIST the devil and he will flee from you.
-James 4:7 | NKJV
Resisting the enemy is part of Christianity. There are more one has to learn about Christianity, that’s why teaching is more important in the life of every believer. No one is above teaching. In senior high school I first heard the word ‘Resistance’ when our Physics teacher walked us through one of the lessons of electronics. I learnt that, for an electric current to be kept at bay from overflowing voltage (which can bring about damage), a resistor needs to be introduced to keep the flow of electrons in check, serving as an opposition. A circuit without a resistor is at risk of serious electrical damages.
God talks to us through the things of nature. He talks to us through the things we learn in school, at workplace, in our families, friends or enemies and things that are so common to man. Yet, we are not receptive to the voice of God. I thought I won’t apply many lessons I learnt in school but now I do. The world we live in is the circuit of life. The breath of life we have is like the cell or battery of a circuit. God permits us to live to some point in time until the time the cells or battery finishes discharging. No wonder the cells of our body are the basic units of life.
The circuit of life (world) we are living in, is so corrupt that sin had taken over because the god of this world who is Satan has corrupted the electrons (with the nature of sin), such that the current we are supplied with is either sin, iniquity, transgression or abomination. The Word of God is the only resistor that can oppose or neutralise the damaging current of sin through the circuit of one’s spirituality. If you don’t submit to God through the obedience of His Word, you can never resist the devil. If the Word of God is not rich in you, he will overcome you if you are unable to neutralise his temptations.
In that case, you will return to your old self of sinful circuit. To enrich the strength of your resistor, you must engage in the activities of prayer, fasting, fellowshipping, giving (alms, duly payment of tithing, offering), evangelism and what have you. The more the current of sin keeps rising through the alarming changes of the world, you have to increase these activities too. This is because, the fact that you are resisting the devil doesn’t mean that sin will stop flowing through the circuit of the world you are living in. Resisting the devil is not God’s job. It is yours to do.

Lift up prayers for vigilance to notice or realise any pulsating current of evil and the resistive power of overcoming them through the power of God’s Word in the name of Jesus Christ.
