THE WISE BUILDER
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Corinthians 3:10-15

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a WISE man who BUILT his house on the ROCK:
-Matthew 7:24 | NKJV

A certain man went abroad and remembered his old friend who had been there for him in good and bad times. It was even him who helped him to travel. It was time to pay his old friend back but he didn’t want him to know. So what he did was that, he sent his friend money to build a house for him. Anytime the friend received the money, he bought cheap materials for the building because he was saving some money from that to build his. Even the cheap materials he bought, the right quantities to be used for the house were not used. Time passed and this fellow finished the building and sent the building pictures over to the traveller.

In no time, the traveller came home and arranged to meet his friend. They exchanged pleasantries and were happy to see each other after a very long time. The traveller asked to see the house that was built for him and they went there. The traveller thanked his old friend and said, ‘Friend, you have been there for me all this while: in good times and in bad times. I had no better gratitude to have been to you than to tell you to build this house for me. You were not building the house for me but you were building it for yourself. This is a token of thanks. Here, have the keys to the entire house. It is yours.’ The old friend didn’t know whether to accept the keys or reject it.

This is because, he had built the house on sand and not on a rock (Matthew 7:26). This short story is likened to Christianity. When we serve God or engage in the things of God, we think we are doing God a favour. We think we are building God’s church for Him. We think that when we build a church building, we are building it for God to come and stay in, but God doesn’t stay in houses made with human hands (Acts 7:48-49). He has already build a house for Himself and He doesn’t need one. The house of God is the body of saints (1 Corinthians 3:16). It is not any flesh of men that the Lord stays in. That’s why the Spirit of God doesn’t inhabit sinners.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for the wisdom to build your life, Godliness, and ministry with good works on the foundation laid by Jesus Christ and strength to go through the price that has to be paid for its completion in the name of Jesus Christ.

But why should we build our temples again knowing that God has already built our bodies for us in the Garden of Eden? You see, after man sinned, that temple was destroyed. This temple can be built again through the works of faith or working out one’s salvation with fear and trembling. Jesus Christ has already laid the foundation for the building (1 Corinthians 3:11). Those who are wise builders count the cost (denying themselves and taking their crosses) before starting the building (Luke 14:28). That is why when crises come (Matthew 7:25), the house still stands because the materials used were the best as gold (1 Corinthians 3:12).

Quote
It doesn’t take money to build, rather, it takes wisdom. As the wise is building, the foolish is busy excavating his.
