DIVINE IMITATION
David Abankwah
READ: John 13:12-15, 34; 15:9-11
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, LEAVING US AN EXAMPLE, THAT YOU SHOULD FOLLOW HIS STEPS:
-I Peter 2:21 | NKJV
As believers, we have imitate Jesus Christ so we can be Christians. The Apostle Paul didn’t imitate any disciple of the Messiah because Jesus Christ is the central figure of imitation. Today many people imitate others because of their outward appearances but they don’t know what the people they are imitating are doing in their secret places. Many imitate bad examples of people but they are unable to imitate their good characters; Beloved, DO NOT IMITATE WHAT IS EVIL, BUT WHAT IS GOOD. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God -III John 1:11 | NKJV. Many people imitate their Pastors and not Christ.
Some can imitate their Pastors’ haircut. Some can imitate their Pastors’ dressing. Some can imitate their Pastors’ way of articulation. Some can copy their Pastors’ style of preaching. Some can copy their Pastors to the point that, there will be no difference between them. There was one time that a certain great man of God dressed in T-shirt for a while. The guys who were imitating him also wore t-shirts. He decided to wear suit for a period of time, and they followed suit. When it come to things of the flesh or carnality, many believers are very good at it. But when it comes to the things of the spirit, they are worse off.
Imitation is the assumption of behaviour observed in other individuals; the quality of an object in possessing some of the nature or attributes of a transcendent idea; something produced as a copy; resembling something else that is usually genuine and of better quality. You can’t imitate Jesus Christ if you don’t know Him well. You first have to know Him before you can imitate Him. The Word of God contains everything you need to know about Him. Read, meditate, and study the Scriptures. After having knowledge about Him, you must practise what you have learnt about Him. We must do the things He did.
We must avoid what He avoided. We are to be like God in every aspect of our lives. Being a divine imitator is to imitate the love of God and all the characters in Him (Galatians 5:22-23). Divine imitation is all about righteousness, holiness, and sanctification. Without the Holy Spirit you can’t imitate God fully. True children resemble their parents. If God is your heavenly Father, you must be a heavenly son and another a carnal son. You can’t live in sin and say you are a child of God. It is high time believers realised this and work towards divine imitation. It is by divine imitation, that one can have eternal life.
•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for the spiritual focus of fixing your eyes on Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith so you can be like Him in all sanctification, righteousness, and holiness in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
The logical conclusion of divine imitation, is a life without sin.
