DIVINE FOCUS
David Abankwah
READ: Philippians 4:8
You will keep him in perfect peace, WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON YOU, because he trusts in You.
-Isaiah 26:3 | NKJV
To focus which means, the concentration of attention or energy on something, cannot be achieved without the mind. Loving God is focusing our minds on the right things. The mind is an integral part of our salvation. We were entreated in Matthew 22:37 to love God with all our heart, soul and MIND. To have divine focus is to tune the mind towards heavenly or spiritual things more than carnal things. Day in and day out, the activities of the day keep us busy. It draws our attention on having a better relationship with those we are closely related to more than the relationship we should have had with God. It draws our mind towards money more than God.
Someone can be in the church and his mind will be doing business. No wonder people can spend almost the whole day at their workplaces but can’t give God just two hours of their time. You say you love God, please! When you were in love, the whole day you were thinking about the person. The love you had for the person made you visit the person on countless times. Because of the love, it made you feel comfortable with the person. Why do you visit God whom you claim you love in His house and feel uneasy? There are many believers who love to be at drinking bars, night clubs, stadiums, entertainment avenues, more than the church premises.
Focusing on the wrong things will cost us our salvation big time. This is because, carnal focus brings death, but divine focus brings life and peace (Romans 8:6). It is carnal focus that produces lust and this lust is what conceives sin. Your real personality lies in the things you think about. That is why John the Baptist, Jesus Christ and the Apostles preached one message that: WE SHOULD REPENT! Repentance is the change of mind and conversion is the change of heart. The mind is very crucial because, it is the organ that coordinates the activities of the body. Without the mind, you can’t see! Without the mind, you can’t feel!
Without the mind you can’t speak well! Without the mind, you can’t taste! Without the mind you can’t hear! Without the mind you can’t smell! When we focus on God, He will surely keep us in perfect peace. If you think a lot about someone you want to marry, then you will certainly dream about the person thinking it is the will of God. Likewise, when you think about God a lot, you will not see demons chasing you always in your dreams. Walk in God by focusing on sanctification and its actions. Be rooted in Jesus Christ by focusing on righteousness and its actions. Be built up by the Holy Spirit by focusing on holiness.
