LOVING GOD
David Abankwah
READ: John 14:15

If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
-I John 4:20 | NKJV

When we are to raise our hands to confirm that we love God, none of us will put his or her hands down. Some say they love God that’s why they are in the church. Some say they want to go to New Jerusalem and escape the lake of fire, that’s why they are serving God. Some say they want to be prosperous, have money, buy cars, build, have children, and all funny reasons that’s why they are serving God. We serve God because we love Him not because of any other reason. The reason many people get jobs and they leave church is because of lack of God’s love. When many are rich, they stop serving God. When they get the child they have been praying for, they stop serving God.

For physical blessings, even an unbeliever can be blessed with it if he applies Biblical principles. What a Christian has that an unbeliever cannot have is eternal life. Eternal life cannot be achieved too without loving God. This is because eternal life was birthed through love. John 3:16 says that, For God so loved the world. God had to love His enemies more than His Son. The love He had for us needed to exceed the love He had for His Son before He had to give Him for us. No parent will ever sacrifice his or her child because blood is thicker than water. But God didn’t do that. Even though blood was thicker than water, because of love, He had to sacrifice His Son for us.

We didn’t do anything for God. We were not His lovers the time that He gave His good thought about our salvation. If God says we should love our enemies in Matthew 5:44, He first loved us who were His enemies. Every sinner is God’s enemy but because of love, He had to overlook our sins, iniquities, transgressions and abominations. That’s why love covers all sins in Proverbs 10:12. If you love God, you should also love your enemies. You should do good to those who hate you. If you love God, you should bless those who curse you. If you love God, you should pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute. Loving God is loving your lovers and loving your enemies as well.

Those who love their enemies are the true children of God (John 5:45). It is not easier to love your enemies if you are mortal that is why you need the power that can enable you do that. That power is the Holy Spirit. To those who believe in Him He gave them power (Holy Spirit who will enable them to love their enemies) so they can become the children of God -John 1:12. Some say they love God but hate those who have offended them. That is a lie (1 John 4:20). Everyone is God’s image or representative. To love God, you first have to love one another (lovers and enemies). Apply that love otherwise I am afraid you are ineligible for eternal life.

Lift up prayers for the power to love your enemies; power to do good to those who hate you; power to bless those that curse you; power to pray for those who persecute or spitefully use you in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
To become a child of God, it is obligatory for you to love your enemies.
