DIVINE ENQUIRY
David Abankwah
READ: Matthew 26:39-42
So they said to him, “Please inquire of God, that we may know whether the journey on which we go will be prosperous.”
-Judges 18:5 | NKJV
One day a certain eagle went to God and inquired of his daily bread for the day. God told him he is permitted to go for his hunt. So the eagle set out. He first came across a young lamb that had just being born. As he was about to lift the animal, the mother of the young lamb didn’t wrestle with the eagle but was looking up to the hills for God to intervene because she knew the battle was the Lord’s and not hers. The eagle was stopped in his tracks and was told to go else where. Again the eagle set out into a freshwater. He spotted a fish inside the water and was about to catch it. As he took it and was about to dash into his abode to eat it, he was told by God again to return it.
The eagle was very frustrated and asked God why is He denying him his meal for the day. God told the eagle that the father of the fish was having faith in Him that no matter what the situation would be, he will see his son again. The eagle then inquired about God to give him another chance for a meal and he again set out. Now, the eagle came across a hen and her chicks. When the eagle was about to take one of the chicks, the hen took matters into her own hands and fought the eagle. He fought with the eagle until hell was broken loose. Finally, the eagle overcame the hen and took one of her chicks away. As the eagle was leaving, he was contemplating whether to eat the chick or he would be denied again.
But God gave him the go ahead because the hen knew the fight was hers and not the Lord. What we have to understand is that, God is Omnipotent (all powerful), Omniscient (all knowing), and Omnipresent (everywhere). It is left of us to entrust our ways onto Him so we can be led. Everything we do, whether it is our Christian life, marriage, school, work, travelling etcetera, we have to inquire from God for His will to be done. You can’t take matters into your own hands thinking you will win. King David always won his battles because he didn’t go to any war without doing divine enquiry first. When God gave him the go ahead, that was when he pursued his enemies.
The will of God is crucial in the lives of every believer. Divine enquiry doesn’t mean the battle is going to be easier but at least God will give you the strength to come out victorious. Inquiring about the will of God about your marriage doesn’t mean it is going to be funfair. God provided Adam his Eve, but there was a battle of disobedience he had to fight ahead of him. Without God you can’t be successful in any good thing because every good and perfect gift comes from Him. Always acknowledge Him to lead you through His Spirit. Inquire about what to do, where to go, the people to meet, your going outs and you coming ins. Taking matters into your own hands like the hen will not end you anywhere.
