MANNA
David Abankwah
READ: Exodus 16
This is the bread which came down from heaven – not as your fathers ate the MANNA, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever.”
-John 6:58 | NKJV
There are two Mannas: The Old Testament Manna and the New Testament manna. The Old Testament manna was the shadow of the New Testament manna that was about to come. The Old Testament manna was a thing thus, a white coriander seed, and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey (Exodus 16:31) which gave strength for the Israelites to continue their journey to the promised. But the New Testament is a Person who is also the Word of God and the Bread of life whom when we eat, we will have strength and we will be filled with life for our souls to continue our journey to the promised land which is the New Jerusalem (John 6:26-33).
The Old Testament Manna didn’t have eternal life in it but there is eternal life in the New Testament Manna. In our time now, the Old Testament manna can be secular work, marriage, social life, financial life, and what have you. But the question is, which one of these mannas do we normally work for most times: the manna that gives eternal life or the manna that gives physical strength? The time we have now, the New Testament manna can return for His second coming at any given time. Blessed is the one whom Jesus Christ (the New Testament Manna) will come and meet him doing the works of the New Testament manna.
The Old Testament manna came from time to time. It was given from a certain time frame. They had to eat it otherwise it would get spoilt. Jesus Christ who is the Bread of life doesn’t get spoilt. He is the Word of God who is always here with us because He is always given to us everyday through evangelism and teaching. The New Testament manna didn’t get spoilt or corrupted when it fell into the tomb for three days. But what is so pathetic is that, many have strength to work out for the Old Testament manna which gets spoilt. If it is a car, one day it will get spoilt. If it is a house one day you will die and leave it behind. If it is a work, one day you will retire.
When you have money, one day you will leave it behind for someone who didn’t even work for it. But there is one thing that can never get spoilt and when you have it no one can take it away from you; that is Jesus Christ. He is the Only One you can take from this world into the hereafter. In the house of Lazarus, Martha was much concerned about the Perishable manna. She saw the need to go to the kitchen to waste her time on the works of the Old manna but Mary was just under the feet of the New Manna and was benefitting big time. The New Manna is what is so important. He is what is genuine. He is what is eternal. He is the One who will give us eternal life (John 3:16).
•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for strength and awareness to work out for the New Testament Manna that gives life to your soul more than the Old Testament manna that is carnal in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
The Old Manna was the shadow of the New Manna that gives eternal life.
