A GOOD FATHER
David Abankwah
READ: Deuteronomy 5:16
For though you might have ten thousand instructors in Christ, YET YOU DO NOT HAVE MANY FATHERS; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
-I Corinthians 4:15 | NKJV
After an announcement reached Jesus Christ and His disciples that, John the Baptist was dead, they entreated the Messiah to teach them how to pray as John taught his disciples to pray. Without hesitation, Jesus Christ began teaching his disciples how to pray. He began by saying, ‘Our Father.’ God is all Our Father. He is the Father of all humans. He is the Father of all the angels. He is the Father of all the twenty-four elders. He is the Father of all the four living creatures. He is the Father of His Son Jesus Christ. God is the Father of all fathers, King over all Kings and Lord over all Lords. God is the Lord over all creations, from plants and animals to various landscapes.
God is the Perfect father every earthly father must study and do what He does. Being a good father is being a leader and being a good father has so many responsibilities. Being a good father doesn’t mean you should be bossy always. A true leader, serves his subordinates when it matters. Being a good father is to love unconditionally. God loves us not because of what we have done. Even when we were His enemies, He still loved us (Romans 5:8). Being a good father is sacrificing yourself for the family and the society if the need be. Because God is a good Father, He loved us so much that, He sacrificed His own begotten Son to die and to save us from our sins.
A good father disciplines his children when they go wrong. Children often go astray because many fathers don’t discipline their children well. Loving your children is not pampering them. Many children are spoilt because their fathers spared the rod of discipline and used the staff of comfort. Every father is like a Shepherd. Rod disciplines and staff are used for comfort or tenderness. A good father cares for his family. Many Ministers of God make the mistake of caring for the church members but they don’t care for their own children. Samuel was a Prophet, but his children were spoilt (1 Samuel 8:3). Eli was a Priest but his children were corrupt (1 Samuel 2:12).
A good father loves his wife as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25). A good father doesn’t provoke his children to wrath, but brings them up in training and admonition in the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). A good father is very responsible. A good father is hardworking. A good father has self-control. He doesn’t sleep with anything in skirt. A good father in fact, doesn’t have a farm and a backyard garden. A good father is faithful always. A good father has a vision and works towards it. A good father is kind. He doesn’t wait to be asked, pushed, agitated or pressured before he gives. A good father is also hopeful. A good father has faith. A good father leaves good inheritances.
