DISPENSATION OF CONSCIENCE
David Abankwah
READ: Romans 8:5-8

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every INTENT of the THOUGHTS of his heart was only evil continually.
-Genesis 6:5 | NKJV

In the Dispensation of ignorance, man finally fell because of the devices of Satan which are lust of the flesh, lust of the eye and pride of life. Eve, ignorant of these devices succumbed to the devil’s arsenal of temptation. Adam was only aware of the knowledge that they should not eat the forbidden fruit but as to whether they knew someone else could come apart from God to deceive them, they knew nothing about it. Only God they had knowledge about. It was all a one-sided affair and because of that, man fell as a result. When man fell, the good news was that, they were no longer ignorant anymore but his time, they were fully aware of good and evil through what is called conscience.

Conscience or consciousness is the sense of the moral goodness or blameworthiness of one’s own conduct, intentions, or character together with a feeling of obligation to do right or be good. In the other side of the Eden, the capital city of the earth, man began to live his life as to how his conscience led him. There was nothing like a Bible which could have guided their way of life, Godliness, and ministry. There was nothing like a church too where they could have met to be exhorted more about God and things that concerned him. The conscience became the focal point of man’s Bible and not the Word of God.

As it is today, there are so many people who are still living in the dispensation of their own conscience and not the Word of God. Even many believers even live their lives based on what their Pastor says and not what the Word of God says. You see them saying ‘My Pastor says this, my Pastor says that,’ but what does the Bible also say? After reading my devotionals, do you crosscheck the Bible to make references or infer if what I am teaching is the right thing or not? It is high time we refrain from what we think is right and live according to what the Word of God says because it is the Word that will be used to judge us all. No mortal is above the Word of God.

When man lives according to his conscience he can never please God. No wonder the intents and thoughts of men’s hearts became evil continually in the dispensation of conscience. This is because conscience or carnal mindedness which is sin is also an enmity against God. Anytime you set your mind on carnal things, you deviate from the perspective of the Word of God who is a Spirit. Our conscience is limited that is why the Word of God is there as a manual to guide us. We may think this or that is right, but before God, it might be wrong. Let us therefore stay glued to what the Word of God says and stop leaning on our logical reasoning.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for humility to be spiritually disposed to the Word of God so you can walk according to the Word of God and not what you think your walk with God should be in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
To live physically, you need your conscience but to live spiritually, you need the Word of God.
