DISPENSATION OF HUMAN GOVERNMENT
David Abankwah
READ: 1 Samuel 8

And they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
-Genesis 11:4 | NKJV

The human government according to the Gentile disposition started in Babel when the people wanted to rule the earth and extend their governance to the heavens. When certain people have one accord even if they have different languages, it is easier for them to have one person whom they elect to be their head. But in this case, the one accord the people of Babel had, was one language and one speech, so it was easier for them to build a tower which was a symbol of authority. Government is just to exercise continuous sovereign over. Even though the people of Babel didn’t have a king, the governance was within their language.

They didn’t need a king to govern them. They actually governed themselves. For you to understand this well, let’s look at the expressions they used that depicts governance. The expression ‘Come, let us make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” “Come, let us build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top is in the heavens; let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.” is a sense of governance. They controlled themselves to fulfill a single policy. Their policy was the tower. All of them were involved in the building of this future policy. The tower of Babel is today ‘The Great Wall of China.’

When God saw their level of governance that they were both kings and subordinates at the same time, He was very impressed. But since, God gave the earth to man to govern, He was not expecting man to extend his governance to the heavens and that called for the confusion of their language in Genesis 11:9. Gentile Kingship first started in Egypt when King Pharaoh first governed Egypt, in Genesis 12:5. For Israeli human governance, God selected priests to govern them. The first priestly governance started when Moses was chosen by God to govern them with the assistance of Aaron but Israeli kingship started in 1 Samuel 10:1 when King Saul was first anointed as the first king over Israel.

The people of Israel were not contend with the priestly governance but rather kingship governance. In 1 Samuel 8:4, the elders of Israel gathered at Ramah and came to Prophet Samuel for a king to judge them like the other nations (Gentiles). They despised the priestly governance of God and chose for themselves the Gentile governance. Even though the thing displeased God and Samuel, their request was granted. The implications of human governance can be found in 1 Samuel 8:11-18. The economics of human governance is centred on buying and selling but in the kingdom of heaven which is Christianity, it is centred on giving and receiving.

•| Prayer Diary |•
Lift up prayers for humility to subject yourself under the governing authorities God has set in place in the house, workplace, church, society, and ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.

Quote
God has the final sway in the establishment of every human governance.
