THE FALL OF PETER
David Abankwah
READ: Matthew 14:30
Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
-I Corinthians 10:12 | NKJV
Peter, an Apostle of the Jews, and a then disciple of our God and Lord Jesus Christ, is not any ordinary man. He is part of the government of God. The government of God is made up of twenty-four elders: The twelve tribes of Israel and the twelve Apostles (Judas Iscariot exclusive and Saul turned Paul inclusive). As Reuben was the firstborn and leader of the tribes of Israel so Apostle Peter became the leader of the Apostles and Christianity at large. But the question we all need to ask is that, why should Peter who was always walking side by side with God, fall? If any disciple ever knew God in flesh (Jesus Christ) better, I believe Peter knew God well.
It was even revealed to Him the real identity of Jesus Christ. But why could someone who knew Jesus Christ in flesh and in Spirit manage to fall several times? We often blame Judas Iscariot for betraying Jesus Christ once but we don’t know Peter denied Him more than what Judas Iscariot did. Many believers who often sin, always quote that, a righteous man fall seven times and rise seven times. The righteous person the Bible was referring to was Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ came purposely on this earth to carry the sins of the world which were on the cross on His shoulders, so He could bury them at a place called Calvary.
On the road to Calvary, He fell seven times because the sins of the world weighed him down. Sin is what makes someone fall and that was what happened to Peter. The genesis of Peter’s fall was when he decided to walk on the waters as he saw Jesus Christ doing so. The sea (Satan and his cohorts) is also a representative of sin and its temptations. As Peter began walking on the waters, his faith was focused on God, but when the storms or temptations began, his attention was shifted from God onto the storms and he lost faith. As it is impossible to please God without faith which makes doubt a sin, Peter’s doubt made him sink. If you have managed to fall as a believer, repent and pray to the Spirit of God to lift you up.
Peter then called on God to help him out and he was saved by the right hand of God (which saves). Even though Peter was saved by God, Satan didn’t leave him alone. He kept pursuing him till he made him fall again when he penetrated into him to deceive Jesus that He would not die. Jesus Christ casted Satan away from Peter, but Satan came again. He made Peter deny Jesus Christ three times through fear. It seems Peter’s fall was over till he went to the world again when he went for fishing after the death of Jesus Christ. Because Peter denied Jesus three times, he was restored by Jesus Christ when he let him confess his love for Him three times (John 21:17).

Lift up prayers for acceptance, repentance, and restoration of your fall as a believer and strength from above to keep you so you won’t fall again in the Lord in the name of Jesus Christ.
Quote
The fall in Christianity begins when you fail to do the works of your first love.
