READ: Matthew 23:23

So Jesus answered and said, “Were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?
-Luke 17:17 | NKJV

Tithe payment has become a major issue to deliberate on in this generation. Many believers who profess they love and always fail in paying their tithe has missed it. There are so many Pastors and churches who say tithe payment is archaic and for that reason should not be paid. Others say that they don’t want to pay it because they don’t want any blessing. Others say tithe payment is not any big deal because you can choose not to pay and choose to pay. Others say tithe payment was nowhere said in the New Testament so we shouldn’t bother to pay it. Other churches has a dogma that failure to pay your tithe will cost you certain privileges or benefits.

Many churches have tithe cards to check payment of tithes because many church members, church leaders, or even Pastors don’t pay their tithe faithfully. Why has the church lost her integrity all because of money? Why has the church lost her generosity all because of stinginess? Why is the church trying to live a life of frugality anytime she has to pay her tithe? How much do we value the God we serve? Why do we dishonour God with our hands and yet glorify Him with our mouths? Why do we think we are doing God a big favour by giving Him our substance which are just peanuts before Him? Many people think God’s heavenly coffers increase when tithes are paid to Him.

God owns everything and needs nothing from us. In the New Testament, Jesus Christ demonstrated tithe payment to us by healing the ten lepers. Nine lepers who were Jews didn’t come but only one person who was seen as a foreigner because he was a Samaritan, came. The nine lepers who didn’t come to Jesus after their healing, is a demonstration of the nine-tenth that belongs to man and the only leper who returned to Jesus (God) was the tithe thus one-tenth that rightfully belongs to God. Even though Jesus Christ asked about the nine lepers who didn’t return, He wasn’t much bothered because He knew that was what belonged to man.

What Jesus (God) had before Him was the tithe and He was pleased with him. Jesus didn’t keep the person as one of His disciples but dismissed him because He wanted to tell us He doesn’t keep our money for anything. Giving tithe is for our own benefit. Tithe payment is of the ways we can honour God. Tithe payment is also a form of gratitude which that leper showed. He went on to say that, that leper’s faith had made him whole, meaning without faith, it is difficult to give tithe. Abraham gave tithe because He had faith. If you don’t pay your tithe, you don’t have faith and without faith too, you can’t have eternal life because salvation is achieved through faith.

Lift up prayers for faithfulness in your tithe payment especially with the little income that comes into your hands in the name of Jesus Christ.

Greater sin has no other than to disobey God’s Word which tithe payment is inclusive.
