DAVID AND GOLIATH
David Abankwah
READ: 2 Corinthians 10:4

So David [beloved] prevailed over the P’lishtim [immigrants] with a sling and with a stone, and struck the P’lishtim [immigrants] , and killed him; but [there was] no sword in the hand of David [beloved].
-1 Samuel 17:50 | NMV

One of the intriguing true life storylines in the Bible is David and Goliath. In fact, even those who had not been Sunday school students have heard about this story before. Many see this story as a warfare and nothing above that. Many see this story as a fabricated story because no unskilled kid can kill a well-trained, well-armed, and professional fighter in the name of Goliath. Others too see this story as an underdog story that inspires many to approach things that are beyond them. Others see this story as something that happened in an archaic generation in the Bible and cannot happen in our time now because we are in a different generation, time and season.

Well, it all started when there was a law in Israel that stipulated that all albinos, physically challenged, and those who suffered from incurable diseases should not live close to the neighboring people but should be in the outskirts. Jesse the father of David knowing the boy was an albino kept him in the house because he knew that when he allowed him out, his child would be caught to join his colleagues in the outskirts. But how long are you going to keep something without it been revealed? One day he was caught and he had to let the boy go. Because he had to keep him busy so he would not feel a longing for his family, he entrusted into his hands 100 sheep to look out for.

To Jesse, he knew the boy will be dead because of where he was going, not knowing God was preparing him to be a king because he had rejected Saul for his disobedience. His training were the bear and the lion. He defeated them and that was when he sang the Psalm 23 song. After that training, he was summoned by Prophet Samuel to be anointed. Days past and one day a champion was chosen by the Philistines from Gath whose name was Goliath to fight a duel with an Israelite. No Israelite ventured but upon further enquiry David stepped in to face the Philistine squarely. He knew as far as the Holy Spirit led him, goodness and mercy shall follow him (Psalms 23:6) even in that battle.

He took five stones (JESUS – rock of ages) and faced Goliath. The fight was between Goliath a carnal person and David a spiritual person or darkness and light. There was no way darkness could overcome light (John 1:5). Goliath three some spears but God was right there to save him. David then took one stone, thus the letter J which meant judgement. As he threw the stone, the Holy Spirit took the stone and infused right into the head of Goliath. Under normal circumstance, no person in this world can throw a stone to enter the head of a person. The strength of God, the Holy Spirit was the One behind David’s stone and his victory. Are you a person God can fight for?
