THE LIFE OF AARON
David Abankwah
READ: Hebrews 5:1-4

So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not AARON the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart.
-Exodus 4:14 | NKJV

Aaron was the second Pastor in the Old Testament to be called into the five-fold ministry. Called as a spokesman to Moses (because Moses was a stammerer), he was so eloquent in speech (Exodus 4:14). Many people remember Pastor Aaron for the golden calf he did for the Israelites when they requested a god they needed to serve. But there are more to Aaron than just the work of a blacksmith. The five-fold ministry is a seat which God chooses one to sit on. There is difference between being called and being chosen. You can be called but you may not be chosen. Today being ‘called’ and being ‘chosen’ has become a misconception for many believers.

When someone is chosen, he thinks he is called and when someone is called, he thinks he is being chosen. Many are called to be believers but few are chosen to sit on the seats of the five-fold ministry “For many are called, but few are chosen”
-Matthew 22:14 | NKJV. Those who sit on the seats of the five-fold ministry are usually leaders. Anyone who is chosen to be a Pastor, sits on the seat of Melchizedek. Again, there is difference between someone who is chosen by God to be a Pastor and someone who wants to be a Pastor. Aaron didn’t go to Bible school before God accepted him as a Pastor. God was the One who chose him to fill that office of ministry.

Today going to Bible school has become a norm. If you don’t hold a degree, you can’t pastor a church. Many churches have neglected the Godly way where God chooses someone to be a Pastor. The fall of many Pastors is because, they were not chosen by God. Even though God accepts a Pastor who is not chosen, He has laid down certain rules for Pastors after the manner of Melchizedek and Aaron – the high priest in 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:7-9. Aaron was a husband of one wife who was called Elisheba. Aaron was someone who was marked by an absence or avoidance of extravagance and violence. Aaron was also a sober minded person. Aaron was more of a good behavioural person.

The blamelessness of Aaron were more than his wrongs. Aaron was hospitable to the Israelites when Moses was away in the mountains to meet God. The ability of Aaron to be a good spokesman tells us that he was someone who was able to teach and open his mouth in knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Aaron was also not given to alcohol. Aaron was not a violent person. Aaron was not greedy for money otherwise he could have run away with the gold the Israelites gave him to make the golden calf. Aaron was a very gentle person. Aaron was also not a quarrelsome person. Aaron was not covetous. Aaron ruled his own household well. Lastly, Aaron was not a novice.

As a priest and a king, lift up prayers to flow in the qualifications of a bishop from start to finish in the name of Jesus Christ.
