ABBA

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “ABBA, Father.”

Many of us use the word Abba and father at the same time, but many don’t know the latter is the meaning of the former. Abba is the word for father in Aramaic. Aramaic was one of the three languages Jesus Christ spoke. A father is an important topic to treat. Without “the heavenly Abba” called Jesus Christ, there wouldn’t have been a heaven and an earth (Matthew 6:9). Without a heavenly Father who is also our spiritual father, no human being could have been created. Our heavenly Abba left inheritance for us not after His death but before we were even created, our inheritances were first created for us. What a loving, gracious, merciful, and just heavenly Abba we have!
The Father’s will was even laid down for us before we came into this universe. Irrespective of the bad name certain earthly fathers are having on earth, our heavenly Abba stands tall. He is a loving father who even love his enemies. He rains for the righteous and sinners and shines for them as well. He provides for all those who even blaspheme His name. Such a role model every father should look up to, but, today, the name ‘father’ is losing honour just because of how deviant certain men have lived their lives. Mother’s day is even honorable than father’s day but what had gone wrong? The heavenly Abba we are all looking up to, is not like that but why are certain “Biological Abba” (Matthew 1) perverted in our generation now?
This leads us to another spiritual father called “the Evil Abba” (John 8:44). If you see a deviant earthly father who is a thief, a killer, and a destroyer, then know that there is an evil spiritual father controlling him. Sometimes we meet other physical fathers who lead us into sin and this leads us to another type of father called “the Abba in sin” (2 Samuel 13:3-5). These personalities can be evil friends who through peer pressures, lead one into all kinds of deviant behaviours. Evil bosses who wants to sleep with you before giving you a job. Evil lovers who wants to test drive a car before buying it and what have you. These devil incarnates are all designated workers of the Evil Abba.
A change from evil to good can come only when you meet another type of father called “the Abba in Christ” (1 Corinthians 4:15). For you to be established in ministry, you need another type of Abba who is called “the ministerial Abba” (1 Corinthians 4:17). You can do well under the ministerial Abba because it is the under the umbrella of that person’s ministry that makes flourishes you. This is the mistake many young ministers do. When they are flourishing under a Ministerial Abba, they also feel they are more anointed than their Ministerial Abba. Some leave their Ministerial Abbas to start their own churches only for them to hit the dead end. Wellness and long life are for those who know their fathers in the Lord.
